2009 Wolverine Baseball
Season in Review
“Reaching New Heights”
After
a frustrating 4-15 season in 2008, we had much loftier goals for
the ’09 season, namely to double the number of wins and make
the CIAC Class M State Tournament, both were achieved and then
some. We finished the regular season 9-9 and qualified for
the State Tournament for the first time in a number of years.
The regular
season was fun and exciting with everyone contributing to the success of the
team in their own way. As a coach, it’s important for each member
of a team to understand their role and be satisfied in performing that role
when needed for the success of the team. I saw a great deal of growth
in this area with this team, but there is still room for improvement. The
fun and excitement continued into the post-season with our first round tournament
game against Wilcox Tech in Meriden. Being the 30th ranked team in Class
M, I’m sure there were many people that didn’t give us much of
a chance against CSC League Champion and 3rd ranked Wilcox, but we gave them
a game. Although the final score was 5-4 in favor of Wilcox, we played
an excellent game all around and I could not have been more proud of my players
and excited for what next year will bring.
With our “core” returning
for the 2010 season, the future of Abbott Tech Baseball looks very bright and
I have a strong feeling that the fun and excitement established this season
will carry over well into the next.
