| A
group of Plumbing and Heating students from Abbott Tech visited
Battleship Cove in Fall River, Massachusetts to do some maintenance
work on USS Massachusetts, a battleship which saw action in World
War II. The students were supervised by Plumbing and Heating Department
Head Tony Resendez and Science instructor Andy Ipkovich. Abbott
Tech Plumbing and Heating students have been visiting the site for
several years now to help keep the historic vessel in good working
order.
Here
is an excerpt of a letter sent by Captain John S. Casey, Director
of Operations at Battleship Cove, to Abbott Tech Principal Jerry
Salese thanking the students for their work:
"As
you can imagine energy costs are huge at our facility, so energy
conservation is very important. Your students, under the direction
of Tony Resendez, arrived her on Tuesday and immediately went to
work on planning how and what they would do on Wednesday. Bright
and early Wednesday the boys started their piping projects and continued
until all were complete. When finished, we had five heater core
assemblies re-piped with new steam traps, strainers, check valves,
and couplings. The competence and enthusiasm demonstrated by these
youngsters were outstanding." |
