| Ms. Stack's students are encouraged to invite guest speakers from the community to our Civics classes. Guest speakers provide the students with many opportunities for authentic learning experiences related to politics, citizenship, journalism and government. Students invite, schedule, and introduce the guest speakers to the class. They also follow up the guest presentation with a thank you letter to the speaker.
Sophomore student Katie
Sirois invited Enfield, Connecticut Mayor Scott Kaupin to
visit Ms. Stack's class. On Friday, October 23rd Mayor
Kaupin discussed with the class his experiences in town politics
as well as his desire to donate his time and experience to the
community. He also discussed the different types of town
governments, the issues that confront town officials including
taxes, expenditures, projects, and the many services that are
provided by the town government. His
presentation was a very interesting and educational experience
enjoyed by all.
Thank you Mayor Kaupin and Katie Sirois! |
