Cheney Tech Students Participate in the Relay for Life |
The Relay for Life event is part memorial service, part fundraiser, and part carnival. It was a great experience for our students to get involved with the community and make a real difference with something that affects millions of people. The students got to see and talk with cancer survivors. They also had the opportunity to light luminaries for people in their families who have been lost. Walking down the path lined with candles that had names of people affected by cancer really helped to make the concept more real. While they were taking a break in their turns walking, they got to play games, eat, talk, listen to music from any of several bands and choruses, and even had henna tattoos and a yoga class the next morning.
In all there were 4 chaperones and 11 students who participated on the Cheney Tech team.
A big thank you to all those that helped to make this a successful and enlightening experience. A special thank you goes out to Ms. Christine Lewin for coordinating the event with our Cheney Tech student team. |
