The BioBus made its second visit to E.C. Goodwin because of the efforts of science teachers Claire Rheiner and Elaine Debenian. The students analyzed amplified soy flour DNA to verify whether or not it was organic.
The Connecticut BioBus is a 40-foot, custom-designed mobile laboratory that provides students with hands-on bioscience experiments. It has been traveling throughout Connecticut since it was founded in 2001 by CURE (Connecticut United for Research Excellence, Inc.). The state-of-the-art equipment on the BioBus brings excitement to learning above and beyond the classroom. BioBus visits are free of charge but require a large commitment of time and effort for the teachers.
Ms. Rheiner and Ms. Debenian have attended workshops as part of their preparation. There are certain lessons and activities that have to be presented before and after the BioBus visit; they have worked to incorporate the visit into their curriculum.
This is a very exciting event for
our students, our staff, and the E.C. Goodwin community. Thank
you Ms. Rheiner and Ms. Debenian for your commitment and passion
to your students and to the world of science and education! |
