Sophomore
students at E.C. Goodwin recently spent a day “doing up”
26 donated wigs for the New England Division of the American Cancer
Society. The wigs, in a variety of colors and lengths, were
reborn under the direction of Mrs. Macri’s Hairdressing
and Barbering class. The group of 15 students learned about
the importance of giving back and community service while using
their newly developed skills. These wigs will eventually
be worn by survivors undergoing treatment for various cancers.
When
asked how it felt to be working on this project, Nicole Wisniewski
said, “I feel very proud to be working on these wigs because
the cancer patients need these wigs and I know my talents are
really appreciated.” Another student in Mrs. Macri’s
class, Shanice Prevo said, “I now realize that it is better
to give than to receive. My aunt never had this opportunity
to get a wig when she was undergoing cancer treatment.”
Both of these young ladies agreed that it was important to give
back to the community and that this lesson was one of the most
important learned thus far at E.C. Goodwin Technical High School. |
