E.C Goodwin SkillsUSA and Career Development Students Work Together to Help their Community

Goodwin Technical High School's SkillsUSA and Career Development program recently went out into the local community to perform service for our neighbors, fulfilling one of our school goals to be members of a “caring and connected community.”  Six Goodwin juniors went to the home of Mr. Edward Kerian, a U.S. Air Force veteran from WWII.  As the students worked around his yard, he shared stories of his war experience as a member of the “greatest generation.”  Additionally, he praised the students on their work ethic, and the way they strive together to improve their community and their lives.

Community service is a key component of the Career Development Course, and also of the SkillsUSA curriculum.  SkillsUSA will participate in their state wide competition this coming Friday, March 28. Mr. Rodney Irizarry is the co-author of this program. He commented, “E. C. Goodwin takes great pride in serving our community and in the scholastic and trade accomplishments of our students:  Robert Sanderson, James Gordon, Maricarmen Oliver, Gabby Sierra, Alexander Ocasio, and Shaniqua Barrington. Each member of this class brings unique and special talents while continuing their education and outreaching to the New Britain community."
