Ruth Tulin Cion has been
chosen Teacher of the Year by her colleagues at E.C. Goodwin Technical
High School. Ms. Cion has been an instructor in
the Connecticut High School System for 15 years, having taught
English, Reading, Social Studies, and presently Special Education.
She holds a B. A. in English and History from the University of
Connecticut. In addition, she holds an M. A. in Language Arts and
a 6th year degree in Special Education, both from St. Joseph’s
College. Ms. Cion also took courses in Urban Education at
the University of Hartford.
Ms. Cion is a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the
educational honor society. Active in diversity and multicultural
education, she has designed curricula for her teachers’ union,
the SVFT of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the AFL-CIO,
serving on their Political Action Committee. She is an elected
delegate to the AFT National Convention. Ms. Cion is a resident
of West Hartford where she began her teaching career. She is also
the lead resource teacher at Temple Beth El in that city. Ms. Cion
described Goodwin’s
students as “…filled with dreams and hopes, hardworking,
and dedicated to productive citizenship by choosing to attend Connecticut’s
first ‘magnet schools’- - the technical high schools.”
