A representative from Macy's was invited to lunch in the E.C Goodwin Dining Room last Wednesday. The E.C.
Goodwin Culinary Arts department is doing its part to help feed
individuals and families across the nation. The culinary staff took part
in a collaborative event between Macy’s and a nonprofit
organization called Feeding America. Stars were sold to help raise money. The red paper stars sold
for one dollar and are displayed in the dining room and in
the student cafeteria. Both students and staff participated. All
the money raised by E.C. Goodwin will be matched by Macy’s.
Vice President/General manager Cynthia Kurja stopped by to have lunch with Dr. Moran, Ms. Mowrey, Chef Rheiner, Ms. Gilmartin and two E.C. Goodwin Culinary seniors, Ciara Morgan and Samone Smith. Ms. Kurja was presented with a check of $189.37 which will be matched by Macy's. With the help of Feeding America this will go to help feed many families across the country.
Feeding
America is an organization that consists of a network of
food banks across the country. The collaborative event is
called “Come Together”. It is a coast-to-coast
fundraising drive to help feed families in need. The goal
of “Come Together” is to provide up to 10 million
meals to help feed those at risk of hunger across the country.
