Manufacturing Tech student Mike Gallant is doing something
many high school students would love to do. He is already
working in a skilled position and earning while he learns.
Mike is working at CEDA Inc., a company based in Newington,
Connecticut which has been in business for over 45 years.
CEDA specializes in rebuilding and repairing machines used
in the manufacturing industry. Mike began working at CEDA
in October, 2007 as part of the Work Based Learning program.
He works a full day during his shop cycle and after school
when he is in academic classes.
CEDA
President Donald Morander said that this is the first student
that he has hired from Goodwin Tech but he said that based
on his experience so far that he would definitely hire more
students in the future. "I think that this is a unique
place to work. Not many places do what we do. We refurbish
a variety of machines and our customers range from small
job shops to United Technologies."
Mike
said that he has really enjoyed working at CEDA Inc.. "It
is small company so I am involved in every aspect of the
work here." He says that his training at Goodwin Tech
helped prepare him for the work he is now doing. "It
gave me a strong foundation in machining so when I started
here I already knew a lot of what I already needed."
