Dear
Parents and Students,
We are pleased to announce that during the 2007 – 08 school
year we will be moving to academic uniforms beginning the first
day of school. Research has consistently shown that the wearing
of school uniforms has had a positive effect on student attitudes,
student attendance and academic performance. We have discussed this
with students, parents and staff and gotten feedback from all three
groups. We expect that all students in grades 9 & 12, who are
beginning in academics on August 30, 2007, will arrive at school
in their new academic uniform. All students in grades 10 & 11
will begin the school year in trade and should be in the designated
shop uniform with gear and equipment. On September 13, 2007, grade
10 and 11 should be properly dressed in the new uniform when they
begin in academics. By that date, all 9th grade students should
have purchased the special Trade Exploratory T-shirt ($6.00). If
your child is a part of the Free and Reduced Lunch Program you may
contact the main office for financial assistance.
The school has chosen to work with our PFO who will serve as the
liaison for the company that will provide the school uniforms. All
shirts, sweaters and other tops, which will have the school logo
imprinted on them, must be purchased through the PFO. The designated
pants and other items, including footwear, can be purchased anywhere
as long as they meet the school uniform policy. Please see below
for the basics of what the school uniform will include. The PFO
will continue to sell the uniform shirts throughout the school year
should you need additional items.
We will be setting up several opportunities for you to come to the
school and purchase uniforms throughout the summer. The schedule
for those days and times is listed below. We will vary the times
to include both day and evening sessions for convenience. In
addition, we are encouraging you to pre-order your shirts on the
enclosed order form which should be returned to Grasso by August
9, 2007. If you are interested in seeing the shirts or
trying them on feel free to stop by the school’s main office
any day between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm beginning July 16. We are grateful
to the PFO for working with us on this project. Remember, we expect
every student in grades 9 & 12 to be in uniform on August 30.
This is a requirement.
The shirts for the uniforms are reasonably priced at $10.00 each.
We are available to discuss the student uniforms or any other concerns
you may have. Feel free to call, email us at grasso.southeastern@po.state.ct.us
or stop by. We will be providing a full dress code policy statement
that speaks to the uniform and all other clothing issues in the
Student/Parent Handbook. We thank you in advance for your support
with this initiative.
Yours
truly,
Kerry Bell
