Secretary’s Report: Minutes
from September 6, 2007, were read by Mrs. Matteson. Change
noted that Mrs. Matteson, not Mr. Blake, made motion to accept
minutes of June 6, 2007. Suzanne Matteson made motion to
accept; Laurel Berns seconded.
Treasurer’s Report: Turhan
Papadopoulos reported that money is trickling in from shirts. Car
show made a profit of $76.67. Cat show made a profit of
$766.45. JoAnn Ammons made motion to accept; Denise James
seconded.
OLD BUSINESS
School Uniforms: Chris
Jones wants uniforms with prices in display case. Hooded
sweatshirts are being allowed for now. Susanne Bengston said
her son reported that there are issues with some students and uniforms;
some students are wearing jeans, etc. Perhaps some teachers
are not reporting students out of uniform during first period. Gina
Fafard indicated that administration is dealing with the problems. Students
have been sent home. A list of violators is being kept.
All Night Grad Party: John
Blake indicated that Karen Wilson and Mrs. Borden volunteered to
chair grad party. A location needs to be found ASAP. Denise
James will call Kerry Bell regarding date. Susanne Bengston
offered to help as long as she has advance notice. Laurel
Berns and Denise James offered to make calls and set up a meeting. Dress
down day was mentioned as possible fundraiser. Will need
to be discussed with Kerry Bell, as other school organizations
and classes may be planning on using the same fundraiser.
Craft Show: JoAnn Ammons
reported that entrants are adding up slowly. We have 17 participants
so far; had 62 last year. Same thing is happening with other
crafters in the area. Might close one-half of gym for this
year’s show. We will need doughnuts in the a.m. Mr.
Cervera suggested that maybe Skills USA students could help. They
need community service hours. Can also check with Mr. Bono
about National Honor Society students. Suzanne Matteson will
help with food list. Suzanne Matteson, Linda Davis, JoAnn
Ammons, Turhan Papadopoulos and Maggie Delaporta offered to help. Turhan
Papadopoulos can only help in the morning. Two parents (Berns/James?)
offered to get food. Need for tables was discussed – how
many and when/where to set up. There will be a bake sale
and a table will also be needed for that. Set up for the
show will be at 4:00 the night before and will probably take about
one hour. Set up on the day of the event begins at 7:00
a.m. The event is open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Clean
up is from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Allen Beebe asked if we were
planning on having a craft show next year. If so, he offered
to ask crafters he knew from the Sailfest. At this time,
we are unsure as to having a craft show next year, due to this
year’s numbers. Linda Davis made a motion to pay craft
show bill; Denise James seconded.
Car Show: Jack
Cervera reported that there were 35 cars this year compared to
24 last year. There was no food. Mr. Blake and Mr.
Welsh were able to get some food and drinks out and made a small
profit, but could have made much more. Next year get items
we can freeze and use at a later date. It is worth it to
have food. Many people parked at Grasso.
Sports Boosters: Suzanne
Matteson reported that we made about $40 at volleyball game. Granola
bars would be good to have. Mr. Blake will pick up large
Gatorades, chips, candy and water.
By-Laws: Revised
by-laws have been drafted but need to be further reviewed and revised
to match the Constitution. Chris Jones made a motion to table
topic; Melissa Lynch seconded.
NEW BUSINESS
Homecoming: Scheduled
for January 4, 2008. There will be a pep rally during the
school day. A basketball game will follow. Following
the game, there will be an intermission for the gym to be mildly
decorated. Times have yet to be determined. Homecoming
will not be formal. Tickets to homecoming will allow students
to attend the game. Issue of when and what students will
eat was discussed.
Fundraising: Students
need to be more involved in fundraising. Need ideas for successful
fundraising.
Lockdown: The PFO
needs to write a letter to administration thanking them for a great
job on the lockdown. Copies will be sent to CTHSS Superintendents. There
was a news channel attempting to get into and/or question individuals
near Automotive. Gina Fafard reported that everything ran
smoothly. State and local police worked well together.
Open to the Floor: Suzanne
Matteson indicated that Paula Roswell, Art Teacher, needs things
for her art room. She asked if we could put the request list
on the PFO website. Maggie Delaporta will request list from
Paula. Roswell.
We need a form for people/groups who want to use the PFO to raise
money (i.e., Skills USA, sports teams, etc.). Need a better
way to track. Jack Cervera made a motion to accept; all were
in favor.
Will the incorrect birthdates on student IDs be corrected? Maggie
Delaporta will ask Chris Jones.
Mr. Cervera shared that Grasso is one of three schools in Connecticut
working with local lobstermen. Ten BET seniors will be participating,
working for $10/hour on a DEP boat. Training begins Thursday,
October 18th. Students will be v-notching lobsters which
will be tracked with GPS. The purpose is to replenish the
lobster population. This is part of a $1 million grant from
a lobster association. The Shop gets $15,000 in scholarship
money.
Maggie Delaporta made a motion to adjourn meeting
at 8:06 p.m.; Denise James seconded. |
