GRASSO SOUTHEASTERN TECH

PARENT-FACULTY ORGANIZATION Minutes

December 6, 2007

Attendees:  John Blake; Maggie Delaporta; Suzanne Matteson; Turhan Papadopoulos; Jack Cervera; JoAnn Ammons; Joan Stearns; Virginia Keith; Linda Davis; George LaMarche.

Meeting called to order at 6:45 p.m.

Treasurer’s Report:  Mr. Papadopoulos reported that there was $474.37 in savings.  Approximately $7,000 was spent on grad party last year.  $1,804.50 has been brought in, including a deposit from the craft show of $292.50.  Mrs. Ammons indicated there should be more money from checks from the crafters.  Mr. Papadopoulos will check into why there isn’t more money. The initial checks from crafters totaled $380.  With payment for maintenance, that amount may have zeroed out missing money.  There is a checking balance of $1,103.28.  JoAnn Ammons made motion to accept; Virginia Keith seconded.

Secretary’s Report:  Ms. Delaporta read minutes from November 1, 2007.  Sue Matteson made a motion to accept; Linda Davis seconded.

Grad Party:  Nothing has been planned; still trying to organize.  There is a place that is holding five days, but the Graduation Committee is still looking at other places.  A request for $123 for postage for donations was requested and needed by January.  Sue Matteson made a motion to approve money for postage; Linda Davis seconded.  The Appleby’s fundraiser should be done again.  Maybe Hoxie could do a fish fry.

Motion to adjourn for break made by Jack Cervera; Virginia Keith seconded.  (approximately 20 minute break taken)

Virginia Keith made motion to reconvene; Joan Stearns seconded.

School Store/Uniforms:  New sweatshirts have come in.  Will be sold starting tomorrow for $22.  Maggie Delaporta mentioned a message received from Mrs. Bengston regarding uniform policy not being followed consistently.  Teachers and admin have been dealing with the issues regularly, but this is a difficult year due to the transition to uniforms.  Some shops can wear jeans.

Next week will sell hotdogs at basketball games.  There is a need for more safety glasses.  Virginia Keith can get a pack of 12 for $24 at Sam’s Club.

Fundraisers:  Flags ordered by Ken Welsh.  Grasso is receiving many calls and invoices from the company.  John Blake spoke with a representative and asked if they could be sent back since it was not an authorized purchase.  The rep said they do not take returns.  Ken won’t pay.  The flags are in the safe in the main office and say “Grasso High School.”  John Blake will ask Kerry Bell if it is OK if Virginia Keith calls Sandy Casberg, the Central Office PFO Liaison.  Until then, inform the company that our investigation is on going.

By-Laws and 501(c)(3):  Need to hire an accountant or lawyer to proceed.  Need to get all paperwork back from Ken Welsh.  Alumni and local business people should be able to be members.  By-Laws need to be in completed in order to progress with 501(c)(3).  Will attempt to have draft By-Laws done by next meeting.

Homecoming:  Scheduled for January 4, 2008.  JV basketball game is from 2:15-3:30 and varsity game will begin between 4:00-4:30.  Pizza, soda, candy will be sold by PFO.  Water and glow sticks will be sold by Skills USA.  Perhaps someone can sell milkshakes or have a sundae bar.  Tickets to homecoming will include admission to games.  Student Council will reimburse Ms. Sprague for $1 per student.  Ticket will also allow student to dress down.  Students will have time to eat between the games and the dance in the cafeteria.

Awards:  Sue Matteson and Linda Davis will assist Mrs. Fafard with awards.
