The Ella Grasso Technical
Hairdressing Junior class recently volunteered to braid
children’s hair at the Stonington Community Center for Caribbean
Night on April 16, 2008. Lorena Bracamonte, Kyrsten Hefferman,
Michelle Torres, Rosalin Fernandez, Morgan Klewin, Sabrina Santiago,
Luisa Vasquez, and Katie Meyerhoff took time out of their spring
vacation to show their community spirit.
Each youngster received a ticket which
was presented to the students to get their hair braided. There were
approximately thirty students who were serviced by Hairdressing students
and they had a wonderful learning experience working on little children
as clients. As Lorena stated ”it made me feel really good
knowing that I was doing something as easy as braids on these girls
made them really happy and excited.” All the students stated
the whole experience taught them about working on children, learning
different textures of hair, and that it was a rewarding, positive
experience. It gave the children confidence and a delightful smile
on their faces to see how pretty they looked! All of the students
enjoyed volunteering and making a difference in these children’s
lives. |
