To enhance the freshmen study of orthographic
projection and multi-view drawings students are working in groups
of two to design their own picnic table. The first step involves
researching for existing picnic table plans on line. Plans are
then reviewed and modified to suit each group’s creativity.
Next, students draw their plans in AutoCAD and graphically describe
their complete idea with three views (front, top, right side).
Then with their 2d drawings they print out a template to facilitate
the construction of a 3/4 architectural scale model of their picnic
table with balsa wood. This project provides hands on component
that exposes students to real world design concepts. |
