Savoy,
a Senior in the Computer Aided Drafting and Design program,
has been working at Diversified Technology Consultants
since July, 2007. Based in North Haven since 1979,
Diversified Technology is a leader in high quality engineering
services. They have worked on a wide range of projects
including civil, structural, electrical, mechanical,
environmental, site development and transportation work.
"I
have learned a lot here. I am a red line drafter. I
get the drawn plans into the computer using Auto CADD,"
says Cody about his work. He works about five hours
a day in the afternoons during his shop cycle and after
school when he is in academics. He receives shop credit
through the Work Based Learning program and gets paid
as an intern by Diversified Technology for his work.
Project
Manager Mike Errickson who supervises Cody says he has
worked out very well so far. "He is an excellent worker,
very independent, and very mature for his age - in fact
many people here thought he was a college intern." Errickson
says that Cody is never afraid to take on challenging
tasks. "Right now, he is putting together a Detail Library
to meet industry standards which we will use for years
after he finishes working for us."
About
his experience so far at Diversified Technology, Cody
says "Everyone
here has been very friendly and helpful. It's a great
place to work." Asked if his training at O'Brien
Tech helped prepare him for his work at Diversified
Technology he says, "Definitely. When I started here
I was able to start doing the work immediately.
My Auto CADD training has really helped."
What is the most important thing has Cody learned as
part of his Work Based Learning experience? "I learned
that engineering work is almost all about developing
good communication skills. You have to work as a team
and you have to think very clearly about the task at
hand." Cody says that he plans to study Civil Engineering
in college after he graduates in June. "Working at Diversified
Technology is a very big step in my future career plans." |
