CHECKLIST
Grade
9
It is critical to be aware of the school calendar. Pay particular
attention to the dates each quarter ends for report cards and
progress report distribution.
Read
and discuss progress reports and report cards with your child.
Check student's class schedule.
Attend the orientation meeting for freshman parents. (September)
Trade
Selection Night (January)
Call your student's counselor with any concerns or questions and
communicate relevant information.
Read and review the school rules and regulations as listed in
the student handbook - pay particular attention to the attendance
policy.
Grade
10
Read and review information from the Guidance Department regarding
college-testing sequence. (PSAT is recommended for many sophomores
- call your student's counselor if you have any questions.)
Read and discuss progress reports and report cards with your student.
Communicate with your student's counselor as necessary.
Grade 11
Attend
Junior Planning Night. This is highly recommended for all parents
of juniors.
Encourage students to register for appropriate College Board tests
(PSAT in the fall, SAT I and/or SAT II in the spring).
Attend College Fairs (October and May) with your son/daughter.
Encourage your child to meet with visiting college representatives
Discuss graduation requirements with your child. They are posted
on the guidance website
Encourage your student to work closely with his/her counselor
concerning college planning. Plan college/career visits and interviews
where recommended.
Grade 12
Review your student's class schedule in light of graduation and
college requirements.
Attend the Senior College Planning Night with your son/daughter.
Encourage your child to sign up to meet with college representatives.
Begin the financial aid process in January
Attend the College Fair field trip
Attend the Financial Aid Night in December
Be sure your student checks college application procedures, deadlines,
testing requirements and scholarship deadlines.
Visit colleges/vocation schools as necessary.
Complete and file all necessary documents for financial aid, noting
deadlines that may differ from college application deadliness.
(FAFSA's deadline is usually February 1 st for the senior year.)
