Electrical
Senior Earns While She Learns at Northeast Utilities
Electrical Senior Stephanie Rodriguez has been working
at Northeast Utilities in Berlin, Connecticut since July,
2008. Northeast Utilities is a Fortune 500 energy company
based in Connecticut that operates New England’s
largest energy delivery system.
Stephanie
puts in a full days work (7:00 am - 3:00 pm) at Northeast
Utilities during her shop cycle. She says that she really
enjoys working at Northeast Utilities. "I like the
hands-on environment here. The people are very friendly
and I have learned a lot already." Stephanie is currently
assembling custom cables that are going to be used as
part of the remote control of all the electrical substations
across New England.
David
LaPlante, Supervisor of Transmission Automation at
Northeast Utilities, oversees Stephanie's work. "She is a very
confident and competent worker. When we give her an assignment
she is able to take on the task and get it done,"
said LaPlante. Northeast Utilities and Prince Tech have
developed a strong partnership over the years. "Stephanie
is just one of many Prince Tech students who have been
placed to work at Northeast Utilities over the last 10
years," said William Wilson, Coordinator of the Work
Based Learning program at Prince Tech.
Stephanie
said that she wants to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering
when she graduates from Prince Tech in June, 2008. "It's
an exciting and important field to work in," said
Stephanie. She will be going out to various substations
around New England to see how the specialized cables she
is fabricating are being used. "It's pretty cool
to think that I am part of a team that is delivering electrical
power to all of the homes and businesses in New England."
