Neil
Swidey, Author of "The
Assist" Visits Prince Tech
Neil Swidey,
author of "The Assist", spoke to 10th and
11th grade basketball players in the Library Media Center on November
20th. The Assist is a gripping,
surprising story about fathers, sons, and surrogates, all confronting
the narrow margins of urban life. His presentation was well
received by the students and staff members who were present. Mr.
Swiley is a staff writer for The Boston Globe Magazine and
a winner of the National Headliner Award. His writing has been
featured in The Best American Science Writing, The
Best American Crime Reporting, and The Best American Political
Writing.
Students
are eager to read his book and the author has asked for the team’s
schedule so that he can attend an A.I.Prince Tech game soon. Mr.
Swidey sent his comments on his visit to Mr.Viola, Prince Tech's
Library Media Specialist:
It was great meeting you today, and getting a chance to speak
with your student-athletes. They seem like a wonderful group
of smart, polite and engaged young guys, and I really enjoyed talking
with them. Thanks for turning them on to the book, and I hope you
find that many of them really dig into the story.
All the best,
Neil
