Diversity
At Its Best
The
Prince Technical High School Dance Troupe performed at Kaynor
Technical High School for the school’s Diversity Celebration
which was held on Feb. 6th, 2009. Instructors Deidre
Shaw & Sarah Potanka along with the Dance Troupe performed
a multicultural fashion and dance show for the students and staff
at Kaynor Tech.
The Dance Troupe wore
traditional clothing from around the world and performed dances
from India, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Africa, Europe, Asia, Israel,
Dominican Republic, Latin America and China. It was an
interactive celebration were the Kaynor Tech students got to
participate in several of the dances and they also got to play
all the musical instruments. It was a successful collaboration
between the two schools.
The
performance had many lasting effects. Robert Axon, Principal
of Kaynor Tech, wrote "Our Diversity Day last Friday at
Kaynor was a huge success with many activities and participation
from community agencies, teachers and students. I wanted to thank
the students and teachers from Prince Tech who participated and
performed for our students." Gregory Forte, the Kaynor
School Climate Comittee Chair, also wrote to "thank Deirdra
Shaw and her diverse dance group for their outstanding performance. Their
performance raised awareness to the diverse cultures that exist
here at Kaynor. Deirdra’s group actively engaged
the student population and left a positive lasting impression
with the school community. Thank
you for the creativeness and the professionalism you bring. Your
group is an invaluable part of our educational system." |
