Prince Connecticut Technical High School has announced the selection
of Christopher White as this year’s Teacher of the Year. As
a Science teacher, White has taught Biology, Physical Science,
Environmental Science and Forensics at Prince. Chris will
expand his repertoire next year to include Astronomy in an effort
to utilize his experience as a Connecticut NASA/JPL Ambassador
and expose his students to the wonders of the solar system.
While his appointment as Teacher
of the Year surprised Chris, it came as no surprise to his students
and colleagues. During his time at Prince Mr. White has worked
tirelessly in a number of capacities. His contributions
to the school include Tech Chair to train faculty in the use of
Mimeo, network functions, Microsoft Office and having an idea of
how to solve most daily technical crises. He is the point
man for keeping the Prince Web Site current and running. He
has worked on the Graduation Committee for three years, has been
the Technical Committee Chair for four years, and is a fixture
in the Personnel Club. To whet the appetite of the Prince
Student body, Chris started an Astronomy group during activity
period. White has also contributed to several District initiatives
including working on the Environmental/Biology/Forensics Curriculums
as well as the District Wide Trimester Assessments. A testimony
to his tireless spirit, Chris also serves as a very effective mentor
to a Senior student.
His vast knowledge of the subject
matter coupled with an enthusiastic approach reveal his passion
for his profession. A student summed up the feelings of students
and staff alike when he called Mr. White “a general go-to
person”. As a result of this moniker, he also has the
dubious distinction that “his phone rings more than any other
teacher”. Another student added that White “explains
information in a way we can understand it”. He was
deemed to be “very insightful” by one student and,
in perhaps the biggest compliment of all, “it's one of the
fastest classes we have” by yet another admirer.
After being named Teacher of the
Year at Manchester High School four years ago, Mr. White left that
system to accept a position at his first choice, Prince Tech. For
all the reasons listed above, the question was not if he would
be Teacher of the Year again, but rather when. Some honors
are just meant to be.
Prince
Tech is proud of its deserving selection,
Christopher White.
