VINAL STANDARDIZED ACADEMIC DRESS
CODE: A
STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
December 2007
Dear Parents/Guardians, and Students,
During the 2008-2009 school year, Vinal will have a Standardized
Dress Code in academics. This Standardized Dress Code has been
implemented in approximately half of the Connecticut Technical
High Schools with positive results. It is supported by the Superintendent
of Schools, the State Board of Education, the Principal’s
Advisory Team and the Parent Faculty Organization. The technology
uniforms will remain the same.
Studies have shown that the adoption of a Standardized Dress Code
policy can promote school safety, improve discipline, and enhance
the learning environment. Many parents/guardians, teachers, and
school officials have turned to a Standardized Dress Code as one
positive and resourceful way to create a school climate that students
feel is safe and conducive to learnimg. The Connecticut Technical
High Schools that have instituted a Standardized Dress Code are
enthusiastic about the positive changes that have been observed
in improving school climate, helping the elimination of socio-economical
barriers, helping students concentrate on their school work, helping
students resist peer pressure, creating social harmony, and improving
school safety.
The Standardized Dress Code is designed to be reasonable and fair.
Several different styles of shirts in a variety of colors will
be available and reasonably priced. The designated pants will be “khaki’ or
trouser style and will be available in several colors that can
be purchased locally. Students will have an opportunity to select
some of the garment colors and to design a custom Vinal logo for
the shirt.
The school has chosen to work with our Parent Faculty Organiziation
who will serve as the liaison for the company that will provide
the apparel. There will be several oportunities in the spring to
order the appropriate clothing. More detailed information regarding
the Standardized Dress Code essentials and purchasing will be forthcoming.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns
via e-mail, written communication, telephone, or attendance at
an upcoming Parent Faculty Organization meeting.
Your cooperation and support with this policy is appreciated.
Sincerely,
Sheila Fredson
