| The
goal of the Special Education program is to assist our students
in becoming informed, responsible, independent workers and adults.
This goal is accomplished through a team (IEP team) effort whereby
students, parents, and special education staff plan and program
to meet each student's individual learning needs. This is done
at a Planning & Placement Team (PPT) meeting.
A
collaborative teaching approach is provided through team classes
on a regular basis. Students are enrolled in regular education
classes where a special education instructor cooperatively teaches
the class with the regular education instructor. This collaborative
teaching between two instructors is geared toward supporting the
student's success in the regular classroom.
A
Resource Program is offered to all special education students.
The program provides students assistance in the completion of
on-going academic assignments, emphasizes organization and encourages
the development of self advocacy skills, in order for the students
to be successful in a high school environment and transition smoothly
into the adult community.
In
the shop areas, special education students are provided supportive
assistance with theory assignments and shop projects. Shop certified
teachers from the Special Education Department work collaboratively
with the individual shop teachers to promote success in the development
of technical skills. |
