Welcome to the Vinal Technical High
School Adult Education Program. This web site provides information
regarding how to become a licensed electrician in the State of
Connecticut.
To become an E 2 licensed electrician, you must comply
with three basic requirements. First, you must complete seven hundred
and twenty hours of classroom instruction. Second, you must log
eight thousand hours of on the job training with an electrical
contractor. Finally, you must pass a board exam administered by
the Department of Consumer Protection.
Upon completion of these three steps, you will receive your electrical
license.
This program is great for individuals looking to change careers
or, as an alternative for a college degree. Best of all, the program
is quite inexpensive when compared to college tuition costs.
If you are working for an electrical contractor,
and have been registered as an apprentice with the Department of
labor, your tuition cost is $100.00 per course, and $25.00 for
registration fee, each semester. Connecticut State law requires
that employers pay 50% of the tuition cost for every apprentice
registered by the company. The rule applies to apprentices taking
classes in State sponsored educational programs. This allows apprentices
to receive the required education for approximately $1,200.00,
plus the cost of books, after four years of instruction.
If you are not a registered apprentice, you are considered an
extension student. Under this classification, the tuition cost
per course is $275.00, plus $25.00 for registration, each semester.
For approximately $5,700.00, plus the cost of books, an extension
student, can complete the required course work in four years.
