Section VI Successful Initiatives
First and foremost had been the development of the Career Center. The Career Center is the hub of all School To Career activities. Listed below are the activities that develop from this center. Some of this information has already been discussed in the work-based section of the manual. - Freshman Foundation Course All Freshman Students take part in the following activities: - Personal interest survey - Work attitudes survey- Miscellaneous career search and career activities using the Internet - Introduction to career clusters - Introduction to workplace readiness skills - Introduction to the SCANS skills and Ct STC Academic and Employability skills - Start of information gathering for a resume - Start of a personal training plan - Start of a personal electronic portfolio and a paper portfolio - Start of a career transcript that includes tracking of CT Academic and Employability workplace readiness skills and SCANS skills - An opportunity to job shadow - 11th Grade Work-Place Readiness Course - There is a concentration on teamwork, the CT Employability Skills and the SCANS skills that accompany the teamwork competency. - A CD ROM SCANS based curriculum that features a virtual business with a need for teamwork and a problem solving team that develops a solution will be the centerpiece of this course. - Completion of any 12th Grade Work-Place Readiness Activities - Job Shadowing - Internships - Project Based Learning Activities - We have had a concentration on professional development activities for staff with the school year 2000/2001 as our student involvement year. - Skills USA SCANS (CT STC Skill Requirements) based lessons for all Students - Sharing of School to Career Knowledge with Other Schools - Student teams developed and presented STC activities. - The Web Works in School Enterprise |
