Senior
Health Technology students are taught that “dressing
for success” is a very important strategy if they want
to be considered in today’s job market. Since
most seniors do not drive or even own vehicles, getting from
point A to B can be challenging. With this in mind, we picked
facilities that were hiring in the areas the students reside.
This way, the students can obtain a ride to work via the
city bus or by a family member, if needed. Some of the facilities
we visited that ultimately hired our seniors included Montowese
Health and Rehab, Arden House Nursing Center, Clintonville
Manor, among others in the New Haven and Hamden area, proving
that “dressing for success” does help!
One
of our goals in the Health Technology department is to
have as many students in the work force as possible. So far,
our record is 9 out of 12 seniors working in healthcare.
This year, we have several juniors that are of age to work
in the healthcare field too. Combining the seniors and juniors
that are of age, we should be able to exceed the record of
9 students working in the field. As of 9/18/2009, we had 4 students
working and all are eligible for the
work based learning program. As these students continue to
place “tools” of success into their
tool box, success for them will come easier. |
