FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who is eligible for Adult or Post Graduate Programs?
Any adult may apply for programs in the Connecticut Technical
High School System. Adult students must have completed
high school, GED or equivalent program to attend the Surgical
Technology Program.
Is there financial aid?
Full-time adult students may apply for Federal Pell Grants, Veteran
waivers, VA benefits and Senior Citizen waivers. The
school does not participate in any federal student loan programs.
Will I be treated like a high school student?
We prefer to treat adults as adults. However, adult students
are expected to comply with school rules such as not smoking,
attendance policies and procedures, etc. We find that adults
realize the value of the training opportunity and are willing
to comply with reasonable rules. Adult students are typically
role models for out youngsters.
How long is the Surgical Technology Program?
It is a ten month full-time day program. The hours are
from 7:50 am-2:30 pm, five days per week during the first semester
and clinical days during the second semester are eight hour shifts
in an area hospital. The classroom hours during the second
semester are the same as first semester.
What will it cost?
Students pay $50.00 non refundable registration fee at orientation. Tuition
is required to be paid in full on or before the first class of
each semester.
How do I apply?
Download application or pick up application at the school. Complete
and forward to Program Department Head along with high school
or GED transcripts and two letters of recommendation. Letters
should be from either past or present employer or educator. (NO

Do I need a current physical exam?
Yes, you will need to go to a physician, physician’s assistant
or advance practice nurse for a physical exam. You will
need to take the school’s physical form to your medical
practitioner for completion. Vaccination status must be
included on the physical form (i.e. TB, tetanus, hepatitis etc.).
Other concerns:
Legal – Any adult applicant with a criminal conviction
must submit court documents pertaining to the offense and dispensation
of the case with their application. Course participation
eligibility will be reviewed and determined by the State Department
of Education legal counsel. |
