Students at Eli Whitney
Technical High School got a glimpse into the life of a
World War II paratrooper. This was thanks to the
efforts of Sergeant Marsan of the Army National Guard and Specialist
Joe Lombardo, a World War II re-enactor who has been a technical
advisor to both the Military Channel and the History Channel.
Sergeant
Marsan and Specialist Lombardo gave students a first hand look
at the equipment and training used by the United States Army
for paratroopers fighting in action during the D-Day invasion. Once
in full jump gear Specialist Lombardo had students pull him
around while he tried to release his parachute so that students
could see the difficulty in getting out of a parachute once
a paratrooper landed on the ground in "Fortress Europe". |
