On Friday October 26, 48 Eli Whitney students
and instructors headed for the hills and the Spiderman corn maze
at Lyman Orchards in Middletown. The event, sponsored
by the Class of 2009 was an overwhelming success. Students
were given a series of clues that led them down narrow passageways,
through twists and turns, over a bridge, and about thirty minutes
later, out of the maze. After the groups got through, a
picnic lunch was served under open air tents nearby.
Students
learned that mazes dated back to Egyptian times when they functioned
as security systems around dwellings and important spots. Mazes
are solved with knowledge stored in the left side of your brain,
the same side used to solve math problems. All
in all, it added up to a great way to spend an October day!
