On
Friday, December 18th, the students at Eli Whitney Technical
High School hosted a Holiday Dinner for the Community. This
free dinner was offered to local senior citizens, a local homeless
shelter, a local soup kitchen and neighbors in the community.
Transportation
was provided to guests as well as musical entertainment from
the “Eli Tech Carolers.” In addition to the
meal, transportation, and entertainment – all guests were
invited to the Eli Whitney Commissary. This pantry was
created through the generous donations of staff and students
and offered over 1,200 items including; non-perishable food items,
toiletries, coats, hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, bed-rolls
and sleeping bags.
The holiday dinner was an
excellent opportunity for students and staff of Eli Whitney to
give back to the community and share the holiday spirit. In
the end, though, we were the recipient of the greatest gift – sharing
time and companionship with others.
This event was made
made possible through generous donations from: the Alumni Association,
Eli Whitney's Student Council, Stores in the Community, and Michael Cobb Husband
of Hairdressing instructor Joanne Cobb who donated 20
turkeys for the event.
