Eli Whitney Student Council Sponsors First Spring Spirit Week

The Eli Whitney Student Council just finished sponsoring a Spring Spirit week for all classes. It was held for seniors and freshmen during A cycle 4/27-5/1 and for sophomores and juniors B cycle 5/4-5/8.

Spirit Week included 5 Days of special events and a one day canned food drive.  The special days allowed students to wear clothing that was not part of the uniform if they participated in the special event.  To get a bit of good natured rivalry between the classes the Student Council said they would provide the class that had the largest percentage of students participating over the 5 days an ice cream social.     The special event days were the same for both weeks.

Monday - Hat Day – You must wear your school uniform but you can where a hat of choice.

Tuesday – Tacky Tuesday – Wear nothing that matches, different colors, designs, of your choice

Wednesday – Twin Day – You and your friend, or friends should dress up exactly alike,  as twins, or triplets etc.  The person you are twins with must be in the same grade as you.

Thursday- Dress to Impress & Save the World Day (canned food drive) - Dress professionally like Will Smith or Jada Picket Smith at the Golden Globes and get extra points for their class by bringing in at least 1 can of food.

Friday - Black out Friday - Everyone in all black counts. All accessories included.

As it turned out, many faculty and staff members got the “Whitney Spirit” as well.  There we Octo-teachers on twin day, Security in suit and tie on Dress to impress day, and many staff dressed sort of geeky and tacky on Tuesday.  All the classes were into the spirit with over 50% of the school participating during the weeks.  The winning class were the juniors who showed their “Whitney Spirit” with over 55% of the members of the class participating.
