SECOND  BLOOD DRIVE OF THE SCHOOL YEAR MEETS GOAL
AND HAS A SPECIAL GUEST PAY A VISIT

SkillsUSA held its second blood drive of the 2011-2012 school year on Friday, September 30, 2011.  SkillsUSA tried something a little different this year by kicking off the blood drive season with a summer drive which was held on July 21st.  It was a challenge to host a summer drive due to school not being in session but as always, in Wilcox style, it was a huge success.  SkillsUSA was able to meet its goal by collecting 45 units of blood at the summer drive.

So the challenge of meeting units of blood goal was once again upon us.  We are happy to report that we exceeded our goal by collecting 57 units of blood at our September 30th drive.  We would also like to thank our teachers and principal for donating blood.  A big thank you to Mr. Telesca, Mr. Terribile, Mrs. DellaVecchia, Officer Maldonado, Mr. Jones, Mrs. Goodson, and Mr. Burke.  When teachers and staff step up to the plate and donate blood, it shows students the importance of giving.  Each unit of blood saves three lives.

We also had a special guest that came to show some support. Elaine St. Peter from the American Red Cross, and Cathy Poulin from the Bob’s Discount Furniture commercials we see on TV came and boosted up the spirits of our student donors. Cathy’s two biggest fans were “star-struck” when they saw her walk in.  Student donors, Christa Kicklighter and Lefty Carrasquillo stopped dead in their tracks when they saw Cathy.   They say they are her two biggest fans.  Christa said to Cathy,” I like that part in the commercial were you sat in the couch. Oh and then you reclined in the couch. That was great!” Lefty stated while taking a picture with Cathy “Oh my God, I can’t believe it, I’m shaking!’ We had a very successful blood drive that exceeded goal and we welcomed Cathy from Bob’s with open arms.
