A CAREER IN DENTAL ASSISTING

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Dental Assistants may perform any of the following tasks: prepare the patient for examination and/or treatment; expose, process, and mount x-rays; take preliminary impressions; provide oral hygiene instruction; assist the dentist in a variety of operative procedures; sterilize instruments and maintain/disinfect dental equipment; aid in office management by handling patient phone calls, record keeping, billing, collections, and purchasing supplies.

THE DENTAL ASSISTING EDUCATION PROGRAM AT WINDHAM TECH

DESCRIPTION: Program consists of theory, in school hands-on practice, and clinical training in local offices. Graduates are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board Examination to earn the title of Certified Dental Assistant.

ADMISSION: Applicants must be high school graduates, or have a GED. A completed application should be submitted with a high school transcript, or a copy of a GED. An admission interview is also required.

LENGTH OF PROGRAM: One school year, September to June. Hours vary by semester.

PROGRAM CONTENT: Courses include: Chairside Assisting, Dental Materials, Radiology, Dental Anatomy, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology & Infection Control, Professional Development, and Dental Office Procedures. Students also complete clinical training at local dental offices and clinics.

COSTS: Total tuition for the 08-09 school year is $2,700.00 ($1,350.00 due in September and $1,350.00 due in January.) There is a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $50.00 due prior to the start of classes. Additional expenses total approximately $1,300.00 and include the costs of uniforms, textbooks, laboratory kits, radiation monitoring badge, and Dental Assisting National Board Examination fee. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify.
