The
2007 Boy’s Volleyball Season was very successful. We welcomed
a new coach to our program, Jim Pepper. He comes to our school
with several years of volleyball experience on the college level.
The
varsity team was lead by seniors Steve Carlson, Jamison Clegg,
and Mike Dubreuil. The junior who rounded out the varsity lineup
were Ryan Andrews, Joe Caron, Vinnie Cruz, Shawn Healy, Dareem
Maynard, Morgan Pace, Mike Stella, and Tyler Wescott. Sophomores
Aaron Montgomery, Roger Rougeot, and Billy Smeriglio rounded out
the squad.
The
varsity team qualified for the state tournament for the fifth
year in a row, and continued their success to the quarterfinals.
Everywhere we went, the squad was well disciplined, worked hard
and never gave up, and this shows in their state tournament berth
and the several school records they broke. One fan summarized
our team, they don’t play as a team, they play as a family.
Senior
Jamison Clegg was elected to the Senior All-Star Team, which places
him as one of the top 24 seniors in the State of Connecticut.
He was honored by a ceremony and All-Star Game in late June.
Junior
Vinnie Cruz was to the State of Connecticut All-State Team, which
places Vinnie as one of the top 12 players in the State of Connecticut.
He was honored at a banquet at the AquaTurf in Southington. Vinnie
was also listed as the Register Citizen Athlete of the Week, Honorable
Mention.
Juniors
Morgan Pace and Mike Stella were All-State Honorable Mention,
and this honor puts them in the top 24 players in the state.
The
varsity team several individual school records, including: Most
Blocks in a Game vs Masuk (10 blocks)- Jamison Clegg, Most Digs
in a Game vs. Masuk 14 digs- Morgan Pace, 32 serve-receptions
- no errors vs Masuk - Jamison Clegg.
The
varsity team also set several school athletic records, including,
the only team in school history to have five All-State Players
in a row, six Senior All-Star Players in a row, and the only team
to go to the quarterfinals in the state tournament five years
in a row.
The
jv and freshman teams had equally successful seasons. The teams
were led by sophomores Aaron Montgomery, Roger Rougeot, and Billy
Smeriglio. The freshman team members were John Blake, Adam Lagassie,
Logan Mitchell, Lance Pepper, Chris Pfeffer, Tyler Rocheleau,
Luke Ross, Nick Schibi, Cory Valiquette, & Brandon Wescott.
Our team managers were Kristina McGonigal, Brittany Tatro, and
Lily Dy. Our sound managers were Evan Beavers, Iassic Languell,
and Luke Pepper.
We
would like to thank our team mom, Mrs. Steponaitis for everything
that she does for our team, including stats, snacks, and organizing
our fundraisers.
We
would also like to thank all of our parents for their support
by attending our games, team dinners, team snacks, and cases of
water. We could not be as successful without your support.
We
want to wish our seniors good luck with school next year, we will
miss your leadership, and to the returning players, we look forward
to seeing you next year.
