Oliver
Wolcott Boys’ Cross Country -- 2007
This
year’s boys’ cross country team started out with double
Berkshire League wins against Northwestern and Housatonic. But,
let’s step back and look at the reason for those victories. Our
team trained over the summer and came back in shape. Since they were
in shape they were able to dominate two larger teams that lacked
that conditioning.
After
those initial successes there was a gap before the next dual meet
victory. It came against The Gilbert School. Later at the Berkshire
League Championships, we again beat Housy and Gilbert, but Northwestern
bested us by three points.
Turning
to out-of –league dual meets, we ran against Wilcox Tech and
won. Then we faced Kaynor Tech and won for the first time in
a twenty year rivalry. Finally, we faced Torrington High School,
an NVL team and a much larger squad. When the dust settled,
The Eye of the Tiger, as we call ourselves, had bested a team we
hadn’t beaten in 15 years to become Torrington City Champions.
At
the Platt Tech Invitational, the boys run of success continued, posting
wins against West Haven High, Sheehan High, Norwich Tech and again
besting Wilcox. Finally came the State Class M meet. Behind
us in the results were Windham High and Kaynor and Wilcox.
The
bottom line is that our dual meet record rests and six wins and seven
losses, the best in years. And total wins this season are fifteen,
the highest ever achieved by Oliver Wolcott’s cross country
teams. The laurel wearers are:
