Leo
Club Members Meet Ambassadors at the UN
OWTS
Leo Club members Christopher Danielczuk, Automotive Technology
Junior, and Michael Schriver, Electrical Technology Sophomore,
were recently selected by the Torrington Lions Club , District
23B, to attend the annual United Nations Lions Club Tour on
March 14th. The trip included meeting several ambassadors
and dignitaries, a special lunch with the ambassador of Finland,
and a tour of the building, including the general assembly
room. In their conferences they discussed the economy,
environment, pollution, and inflation. Also attending
were the Undersecretary General of the UN and the national
President of the Lions Club.
The
boys said having lunch with the Finnish ambassador was the
best part of the day. They liked the national flags of
all the countries and the special gifts some provided for display
inside the building. They also got a glimpse of protesters
outside on the streets.
At
school, the Leo Club is sponsored by the Lions and is a community
service-based program. It’s mission is to provide
the young people of the world with opportunities for achievement,
learning, contribution and service, individually and collectively,
through sponsorship of activities identified as best practices
in the field of youth development.
This
year the club has been involved in programs such as Breakfast
with Santa, Chunk or Treat, dinner at St. Francis, visits to
the Marathon House, and a Pancake Breakfast.
Leo
Club Advisors are Mrs. Kathleen Roden and Mr. Stanley Danielczuk.
