The Northwest Connecticut Chamber of Commerce sponsored it’s third annual Technology Fair on Tuesday, October 30th. The event was hosted by Oliver Wolcott for the third consecutive year and held in the school gymnasium from 10 AM until 4 PM. Thirty-one businesses and organizations were represented at the fair. Five area high schools were represented which included Wamogo, Northwest #7, Thomaston, Litchfield, and Wolcott Technical School. Between 500-600 students attended the fair, whose unquestioned star was Robot Al, the Alcoa Howmet communications robot. (see related story link) Wolcott Tech News
Christopher Vita, the Chamber’s brand new Director of Programs, was impressed. “I thought it was a great success. The response from the companies and the students was enthusiastic. Everyone was interacting, the fair went well, and it was constantly populated with kids. Our purpose was to have the future workforce engaged with the local companies. It is important that the community get to know the companies in our region. We want to keep skilled workers in the area. The feedback has been positive; the businesses and the schools both thought it was a worthwhile use of their time.”
Chamber President JoAnn Ryan was very pleased at the turnout and appreciated the support of all the presenters. She was especially grateful for the generosity of Alcoa, CL&P Yankee Gas, and Borghesi.
Mr. Kushman, Principal of OWTS states, “We want to encourage better communication among educators, students, and area businesses and introduce our students to the importance of technology in the Northwest corner of the state.”
