Sophomore
Has Poem Published

OWTS
Sophomore Rebecca Cavallo recently had one of her poems published
as a result of her entering a poetry contest sponsored by
Creative Communication. The company is devoted to the
promotion of writing, teaching, and appreciation of student
writing. It sponsors student contests in order to encourage
creative writing. The top entries are published in
an anthology called Celebrate! Young Poets Speak Out, that
records the creative insights of today’s young writers. It
is in the summer edition of this book that Rebecca’s
poem, entitled “Rescue Me,” can be found.
“When
I was younger, my sister read me one of her poems and I really
liked it,” said Rebecca. “I’ve been
writing poetry since elementary school. Ms. Smith,
from our language lab, used to read my poems. She heard
about the contest and suggested I enter it."
Rescue
Me
by
Rebecca Cavallo
My
hero, my savior,
Rescue
me as promised,
From
the unbelief of dying pain,
And
the agony in each smile,
Misunderstood
in every spoken word,
Still
awakened by every kiss,
Invisible
to my surroundings,
Come
take me away,
To
where the wind will dry my tears,
And
the rain will wash away the pain,
I’m
empty inside,
And
it’s difficult to hide,
Every
shattered piece,
That
you threw back at me,
Has
cut, broken, and left me bleeding,
Every
tear is a drop of strength,
Every
hope has faded,
I
have given you my everything,
To
the last ounce of laughter,
That
you created. |
