National Honor Society

Advisor: Mr. Bishop

Selection of the National Honor Society (NHS) candidates begins with the publication of the second marking term Honor Roll. To be considered, students must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors and have maintained Honor Roll status for three consecutive terms. Candidates are also rated by faculty on leadership, character and service. A member failing to maintain the standards of the NHS is brought to the attention of the faculty advisor and NHS officers and is subject to dismissal. A dismissed member is never again eligible for membership in the NHS and must turn in his or her pin, certificate and membership card.

Honor Society News

by Luke Pepper, President

IN 2012-13, the NHS has played a very active role in the school and community.  Since the beginning of the year, we hosted numerous events including a handball tournament and floor hockey tournament.  Both events raised close to a thousand dollars each for various charities.  We also ran a Thanksgiving can drive which provided over 1,200 cans of food to the local food bank.

Our tutoring program has also become great success.  The program pairs Seniors with Sophomores and Juniors with Freshman.  The purpose is to not only provide support with schoolwork, but also to provide personal advice where needed.

The members of National Honor Society hope that, as the year winds to a close, they can continue to play a vital role in event coordination at OWTS and school climate in general.
