Two
Recieve Basketball Honors
Gary
Breeden and Coach Nadeau recognized
It
was an awesome season for the Abbott Tech Wolverines. After
starting with a 0-6 losing streak, they came back to compete
in the Class M CIAC quarter finals. Gary and Coach Nadeau
were honored, but make no mistake... this was a team effort. Congratulations
to the awesome Abbott Tech Boy's Basketball team! |
Senior,
Guard
The
Wolverines senior was possibly the surprise of the season for
both opponents and his own coaches. Breeden finished the year
as area's second leading scorer, averaging 16.7 points an outing.
He
also was the main distributor for the Wolverines, handing out
5.7 assists per game and grabbing 6.8 rebounds per game. "I
can't honestly say I saw this coming," Abbott Tech coach
Jon Nadeau said. "Gary just wants to win as much as anyone
I've seen. He was our silent killer." Breeden, a soft-spoken
captain, was a key as the Wolverines rallied from an 0-6 start
by winning 15 straight games.
Abbott Tech also reached the
CSC semifinals and the quarterfinals of the Class M state tournament. |

Basketball Coach of the Year
When
his team was staring at an 0-6 record, Nadeau was just trying
to figure out how to win a game, let alone 17. Nadeau set
new standards at Abbott Tech, reviving both the Wolverines'
season and the program.
The veteran coach, who just completed
his eighth season at Abbott Tech, won the most games (17)
in his tenure, posted his longest winning streak (15), won
the CSC West Division for the third time, reached the CSC
semifinals and won his first two state playoff games as Abbott
Tech reached the Class M quarterfinals. "We always
thought the wins would come," Nadeau said. "Just
not quite like that."
Nadeau was quick to credit his
players for not giving up on the season. "They stayed
positive, never got down on each other and listened even
while we were losing," Nadeau said. "We knew the
best was yet to come."
The Wolverines ended up with
three players earning All-CSC honors. But Nadeau,
who was selected to coach the CHSCA Class S/M West Senior
All-Star team, admits he never saw this amount of success
coming. "We surpassed even our own goals," Nadeau
said. "A lot of guys really stepped up this year." |
