PARENTS CHECKLIST
Grade 9
- It is critical to be aware of the school calendar. Pay particular attention to the dates each quarter ends for report cards and progress report distribution.
- Read and discuss progress reports and report cards with your child.
- Check your student's class schedule.
- Attend the orientation meeting for freshman parents. (October)
- Shop Selection Night (February)
- Call your student's counselor with any concerns or questions and communicate relevant information.
- Read and review the school rules and regulations as listed in the student handbook - pay particular attention to the attendance policy (12 unexcused before loss of credit).
Grade 10
- Read and review information from the Guidance Department regarding college-testing sequence. (PSAT is district mandated for all sophomores and juniors and is held in October)
- Read and discuss progress reports and report cards with your student.
- Communicate with your student's counselor as necessary.
Grade 11
- All Juniors will
take the PSAT October (district mandated)
- Encourage students to register for appropriate College Board tests optional SAT or ACT in the Spring.
- Encourage your student to take the ASVAB (November)
- Attend the Danbury Fair Mall College Fair with your son/daughter.
- Discuss graduation requirements with your child. They
are posted on the guidance website. (CAPT & Credit
Requirements)
- Encourage your student to work closely with his/her counselor concerning college planning. Plan college/career visits and interviews where recommended.
Grade 12
- Review your student's class schedule in light of graduation and college requirements.
- Encourage your child to sign up for visiting college representatives (students should see School Counselor for a schedule of events).
- Attend Danbury Fair Mall College Fair with your son/daughter.
- Attend the Financial Aid Night (November).
- Be sure your student checks college application procedures,
deadlines, & testing requirements.
- Check website for scholarship information and deadlines.
- Begin the financial aid process (January).
- Visit colleges/vocational schools as necessary.
- Complete and file all necessary documents for financial aid, noting deadlines that may differ from college application deadliness. (FAFSA's deadline is usually February 1st for the senior year.)
