Computer Aided Drafting and Design Field Trip

Asnuntuck College in Enfield

The sophomore and junior CADD Technology students along with the juniors of Manufacturing Technology attended the “Immerse Yourself in 21st Century Technology Expo” at Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield CT (www.acc.commnet.edu/manufacturingtechnologycenter/NewsandEvents.htm) .  The Expo was sponsored by Next Manufacturing (www.nextgenmfg.org) and CBIA of Connecticut (www.cbia.com).  These organizations are committed to exposing students statewide to manufacturing careers which will see its employee base reduced by twenty five percent in the next five years.  It was a great opportunity for Henry Abbott students to explore the additive method of manufacturing.  They were able to observe advanced uses of Solidworks3D modeling software, Animation tools, 3D scanners, and 3D printers.  All of these are instrumental in producing prototype parts during the design process.  We were able to tour the Technology areas of the college and listen to a presentation given by the director of the manufacturing center, Frank Gulluni, and a local corporation using the additive process.
