Who
is eligible for Adult or Post Graduate Programs?
Any resident adult may apply for programs in the Connecticut
Technical High School System. Typically, adult students
have completed high school or GED programs. For most of
our courses priority for enrollment is given to high school
age students. However if there is an empty spot in trade/technical
program, an adult may be enrolled in the program. There
are also programs that are specifically for adults and not
open for high school students. That means there is a variety
of opportunities available to adults around this region.
How
long are the Programs?
Programs begin each September and their length varies from
1 to 3 years. In most cases, a motivated adult will have
sufficient skill after 1 year to gain entry level employment.
Courses that are designed as 1-year programs will effectively
prepare you for employment. Of course, we encourage adults
to stay the full 2 years on some programs, but that commitment
is not mandatory. We are planning to build our evening programs
so that adults who only complete 1 year of a program may
elect to continue on their own.
What
will it cost?
Students pay a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee each
school year they are in attendance. Tuition varies by program.
In 2007-2008, most programs' tuition is $1350.00 per semester,
which is required to be paid in full on or before the first
class session in each semester. Contact the school's Regional
Assistant Principal for more specific information.
Is there Financial Aid?
Full-time Adult students may apply for Federal Pell Grants,
Veteran's waivers, VA benefits, and Senior Citizen's waivers.
The school does not participate in any Federal student loan
programs.
Will
I be treated like a high school student?
We prefer to treat adults as adults. However, adult
students are expected to comply with school rules such as
no smoking, attendance policies and procedures, etc. We
find that adults realize the value of the training opportunity
and are willing to comply with reasonable rules. Adult students
are typically role models for our youngsters.
How
do I apply?
Call 1-800-822-6832 or contact the Technical
High School near you.
What
about transportation?
The Connecticut Technical High School System does not
supply transportation to their schools. Some towns allow
adult students to ride their town bus with the high school
kids. You can contact the bus coordinator in your town to
see if that is possible. |
