Graphics Tech Class of 2009 students
were busy working on a special group project this fall. Together
they created a backdrop for the students of the Academy of the
Holy Family School in Baltic, Connecticut. for their production
of “The
Sound of Music”
The students used the Canon ipf 8000 large format printer which
was given to the Graphic Technology Departments last year.
The students were given a photograph 3” x 5” which
they enlarged to 10ft x 30ft using Photoshop. They then printed
it out in 36” x 10’ panels which they had to join together
to make the completed backdrop. For the entire project, the students
not only had to figure out the percentages, but also had to figure
resolutions for the enlargements, how the panels would break, and
the means for joining the prints and how the final print would
be hung on the stage.
This is the largest project to date using the Large Format Printer.
In the past the students have made posters for the Culinary Department,
Bridgeport’s “Gloves for Guns” boxing program,
assorted banners and retractable signs for Guidance, assorted vinyl
banners for walk in customers, and a canvas reproduction print
for the Norwalk Museum.
Thanks to this printer, the students of the Graphic Technology
Department have increased the public’s awareness how diversified
the Graphic Technology program can be. |
