Components of Guidance Program

DEVELOPMENTAL COUNSELING - includes sequentially presented activities and lessons the assist all students with the stages of growth, and to help them to understand themselves and others. The goal is to promote educational excellence by using prevention and early intervention to foster wellness.
ACADEMIC PLANNING - Includes the selection of a plan of study, placement into appropriate courses and trade program, attendance improvement, study skills development.
PERSONAL/SOCIAL GROWTH - Includes individual counseling and group concerning self-understanding, personal responsibility decision-making, and positive coping skills.
CAREER/LIFE PLANNING - Includes career development which can prepare students for the transition from school to work and school to college. The goal is to prepare students to have a successful work ethnic in the work place of tomorrow and to have the skills to cope with the challenges and changes of new technology.

  • Exploratory Program - Students will go through a 3-phase exploratory program freshmen year to make better career decisions.
  • School to Career - Increase students' awareness of trades and careers, and to teach students the values and attitudes necessary to be a successful professional.
  • Cooperative Work Experience Program - The purpose of this program is to supplement the school trade training experience with actual on-the-job training and to facilitate the transition from school to work.
  • Tech Prep - Designed to provide high school students with an enhanced program of technical education. This is a partnership between RVTS and technical colleges.
  • Career Center - A maintained resource center in which students may investigate careers and post-secondary interests through computers, multi media and assessments.
  • Job Shadowing - A student will follow an assigned employee for one or more days to learn about occupations or/and industry.
OTHER GUIDANCE FUNCTIONS:
  • Orientation - conduct and organized orientation programs for parents and students.
  • Standardized Test - interprets results of mastery test, ASVAB, CAPT, SAT, PSAT, and other vocational and academic assessments.
  • Recruitment - plan and organized recruitment program for incoming freshmen.
  • Assist in the development of enrichment programsMaintain students' records.
