Medical Health/Dental Plans

  • Anthem Blue Cross (Preferred, POS, or POE with Gatekeeper)

Depending on the plan choice, nontaxable premiums are deducted for employees and dependents.

All plans include prescription drug coverage with reasonable co pays. Employees may switch medical/dental plans annually during the open enrollment month. Employees may add a spouse or dependents to their coverage in accordance with plan provisions.

Pension Plan

Choice of contributory retirement plans:

  • Teachers retirement system (7% contribution, plus Medicare deduction).

  • State Employees Retirement System (Tier IIa, 2% contribution, plus Social Security and Medicare deduction).

Tax Sheltered Annuity Accounts and/or Deferred

Compensation

  • TSA (403b) offers the choice of a variety of annuities. Deferrals up to $13,000 annually (some restrictions apply).

  • Deferred Compensation (457k) offered through Aetna, Phoenix and The Hartford. Deferrals up to $13,000 annually.

Group Life Insurance

  • Underwritten by The Medical Life Insurance Company.

  • Term life is offered after six months of employment.

  • No evidence of insurability is required if insurance is accepted at initial employment.

  • Fifty-percent  paid- up policy upon retirement with 25 years of participation in group life plan. Policy value is approximately $4,000 greater than base annual salary.

  • Optional additional supplemental group life insurance available up to $50,000.

  • Bankers Security Universal Whole Life

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • 188-day work year

  • Wages prorated for teachers who work fewer than 186 days

  • Salary increases as provided for in collective bargaining agreement

  • 15 days of accrued sick leave per school year (unlimited carryover from year to year)

  • After 3 years of employment, employee can elect to participate in sick leave bank.

  • 3 days of personal leave per school year

  • Tuition reimbursement fully paid tuition for relevant coursework (up to the maximum per credit cost charged by University Of Connecticut), limited to nine credits reimbursed per year per individual, subject to availability of funds in the negotiated account.

  • Direct deposit paycheck to most financial institutions.

  • Travel reimbursement (for expenses accrued on approved state business, paid in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement)

  • Maternity, child rearing and family leave (unpaid leave as determined by federal and state law and union contract).

  • Paid military leave for required field training (annual training/summer camp) after completion of one full year of service

  • Workers' Compensation coverage in accordance with Connecticut General Statutes

  • Employee Assistance Program available for confidential counseling and referral services

  • Semiannual longevity payments to employees with more than 10 years of eligible service

INSTRUCTORS WORKING 17.5 OR MORE HOURS PER

WEEK IN THE REGULAR DAY SCHOOL PROGRAM

  • 5 days of sick leave per year; 17.5 hours posted on 9/1; 17.5 hours posted on 1/1

  • Medical and Dental Insurance - Small co-payments for individual and dependent coverage.  Plans include prescription drug coverage.  Medical insurance is available through Anthem/Blue Cross (1-800-922-2232 or anthem.com/statect), HealthNet (1-800-255-5019 or www.healthnet.com), or Oxford Health Plans, a United Healthcare company, (1-800-760-4566 or www.oxfordhealth.com).  Each company offers three plans, a point of service plan, a point of enrollment plan with no gatekeeper and a point of enrollment plan with a gatekeeper.  In addition, Anthem/Blue Cross continues to offer the State preferred plan, which is a point of service plan.  Prescription drug coverage is provided by PharmaCare (1-800-318-2572 or www.pharmacare.com).  Dental insurance is available through United Healthcare (1-800-896-4834 or www.myuhcdental.com) or Aetna (1-877-238-6200 or www.Aetna.com).
