Bullard-Havens Tech Wins Bronze Medal for School's Accomplishments

Bullard-Havens Technical High School of Bridgeport, Connecticut was recognized by the national publication U.S. News and World Report as a Bronze Level school for the educational accomplishments its has achieved. The magazine has singled out a select number of high schools around the country that have made extraordinary efforts in advancing the level of education.

Over the past few years Bullard-Havens has participated in many successful initiatives that have contributed to the success of the school.  The Language Arts and Math Labs have provided extra support to all of our students in grades 9 and 10 and the Extended Day Academy has provided extra emphasis in the areas of Science, Math and Language Arts for many students.

Additionally, staff members continue to challenge their students in a variety of ways. Through the use of various instructional strategies and differentiated instruction, staff members are able to focus in on individual strengths and weaknesses of all of our students.  Thereby students are supported in a variety of ways thus allowing for maximum growth in all academic and trade areas.

Bullard-Haven's Principal Dr. Ken Hilliard was extremely excited with the recognition given to the school. "We here at Bullard-Havens are honored to receive this prestigious award.  Over the years we have committed ourselves to a total team effort toward the academic and technical excellence of all of our students.  This total team approach began under the leadership of Mr. Joseph LaVorgna and has continued with the present administration. We here at Bullard-Havens are very proud of this honor.  We would like to thank all of those involved for their help, support and encouragement. We look forward to continued success in the future."

Lavorgna seconded the team effort as a major factor in receiving the award, "This honor is the culminating efforts of a group of very dedicated staff that believe in a common vision and the idea that we're all capable of extraordinary things."

Dr. Abigail Hughes, Superintendent of the Connecticut Technical High School System, also was thrilled to hear of the school's national recognition. "Please join me in congratulating the students, staff and administration at Bullard-Havens.  They have worked very hard to achieve student success."

Hilliard said that those most responsible for the school's success were its students. "We have been fortunate to have a delightful, curious yet energetic student body that has met every challenge and succeeded both academically and professionally.  Our wonderful student body has consistently scored higher each year on standardized test and has been equally successful at obtaining admission to many of our countries outstanding colleges and universities.
