| Every
school day morning at Platt Technical High School there
is a rush to get ready. Students and advisors run around
checking the lighting, sound and everything else that goes
into a major TV production. This is Platt Tech TV. Each
morning Social Studies Instructor Pat Burke is the star
of the Morning Show which is a 10 minute program shown to
all classrooms during homeroom. It is a new and creative
way to do the morning announcements utilizing the video
network that was installed in all of the Connecticut Technical
High Schools two years ago.
Platt Tech TV
advisors and Media Center instructors Paula Patterson and
Bruce Howard have worked hard to make Platt Tech TV happen.
Through PTO donations and the cooperation of the whole school,
they built a TV studio to produce their news shows for the
school. They also produce a weekly TV show which is cable
cast throughout the Milford area and has won several cable
awards for community service.
Tom Price, a Junior
in the Electronics Technology program at Platt Tech, is
the producer of the morning show, which he takes very seriously.
"Tom has been with us since the beginning and he is
here every day to do the show," said advisor Bruce
Howard. Other members of the production crew are Chakell
and Chanae Neal, Luis Silva and Estuardo Medina.
"We are constantly
trying to make improvements to the show," said Howard
"We are trying to make it informative but also entertaining."
For example, on today's show Burke, the host of the show,
was dressed up in a pirate's outfit in celebration of hat
day, one of the activities for Spirit Week at Platt Tech.
Platt Tech TV
is a great way to have students work as a team, learn about
technology and communication and have fun doing it
- which is what good educational activities always do.
