Auto Department Wins Third Straight State Ford/AAA Finals
The Team of Tyler Busch and Bryan Hauser came in first in
the Ford/AAA Auto Skills Competition held at the
Crowne Plaza Hotel in
Cromwell, Connecticut. This is the
third year in
a row that the team from Norwich Tech
has won the competition. This is
also the fifth straight win for their instructor Peter Fiasconaro.
Busch and Hauser competed against nine other teams from state
Technical
High Schools
and Comprehensive
High Schools from around the state. Students earned the right
to compete in the state finals based on scores from tests taken in
February. Twenty students
were chosen from over 150 students from 19 schools taking the written
exam.
Students
competed on identically prepared 2006 Ford Escape vehicles. The
cars had faults or "bugs" placed in the cars and the students' task
was to find and repair problems and replace defective parts. The
students had 90 minutes in which to complete all repairs and drive
the car to final judging. The
Norwic Tech students completed
the task first in just 40 minutes.
Busch,
Hauser and their instructor Mr. Fiasconaro each won an all-expense paid trip to
Dearborn, Michigan to compete in the National Finals on June 27th.
