students and instructors from all sixteen
Connecticut Technical High Schools attended the EE Smarts
Workshop on Thursday, September 3rd at the Connecticut Science
Center in Hartford. Sponsored by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency
Fund and Learning for Clean Energy Innovation - Connecticut Clean
Energy Fund, the workshop was presented by Bob Borello, Associate
Director for Science - Project to Increase Mastery of Mathematics
and Science (PIMMS) at Wesleyan University.
Students and instructors attending got the chance to experience
the latest EEsmarts lessons and activities on "Green
Technology" and discussed ways to incorporate them
into the classroom. Durng the past four years,
the Connecticut Technical High School System (CTHSS) has partnered
with Rebecca Meyer of Northeast Utilities Company and Kirsten Brooks
of United Illuminating Company to incorporate lessons
that stress the importance of clean, sustainable technologies.
Raymond Mencio, Consultant for the Construction trades in the CTHSS
and Donna Wallace/Obloj, Consultant for Science, have spearheaded
the effort to get Connecticut Tech instructors and students trained
in the installation and maintenance of the latest green technologies.
Patricia A. Ciccone, Interim Superintendent of the Connecticut
Technical High School System (CTHSS), received an award for the
system's commitment to providing EE Smarts training. She thanked
all of the CTHSS Electrical instructors who have worked very hard
to implement EE Smarts lessons into their classrooms. Each of the
instructors received a certificate of appreciation from the sponsors
of the workshop.
Afterwards, participants had the opportunity to tour the Science
Center especially concentrating on the Clean City exhibit which
showcased a variety of green technologies being developed for the
future.
